The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a challenge for partners in committed relationships who enjoy scary movies: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like standard body horror, but beneath Together exists a deep meditation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Exploring Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors infuse a unique chemistry to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the countryside for her career. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence begins influencing the duo. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) body horror, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and removed from his network of friends. He fears the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie avoids making Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

The couple face the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, some couples who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could act as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending sow anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can undertake today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
